A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA UPON THE DEATH OF JOSEPH CLYDE ROBINSON OF BEAUFORT, A BRAVE AND COURAGEOUS FIREFIGHTER, AND TO EXTEND THEIR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Joseph Clyde Robinson, on January 20, 2005, at the age of sixty-six after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer; and

Whereas, Mr. Robinson was born November 8, 1938, in Statesboro, Georgia, the son of John Clyde Robinson and Josephine Louise Hendricks Robinson; and

Whereas, he served with the United States Coast Guard and retired from Federal Fire Service with the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort Department after twenty-seven years; and

Whereas, Mr. Robinson also served as a firefighter with the Parris Island Recruit Depot and Naval Hospital in Beaufort and the city of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and was formerly employed by the South Carolina Highway Department; and

Whereas, he served as a volunteer firefighter with the Beaufort Fire Department for thirty-nine years; and

Whereas, Mr. Robinson was recently awarded a Congressional Fire Services Institute Length of Service Award, and, in recognition of his countless contributions, the Beaufort Fire Department proudly presents an annual award to its employees in Joe's name; and

Whereas, throughout his years of service, he continuously showed tremendous courage and strength in the face of danger; and

Whereas, Mr. Robinson was well known in the community for his compassion and generosity, and he was actively involved as an assistant Boy Scout leader, a member of the Firefighters Association, and an elder and member of Port Royal United Methodist Church; and

Whereas, he was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Frances J. Shibilio Robinson, a loving father to his son, John Carl Robinson of Beaufort, and three daughters, Wanda Netherton-Skirm of Jacksonville, Florida; Susan Keefner of Early Branch; and Sharon Roberts of Beaufort; and

Whereas, Mr. Robinson is also survived by two brothers, Charles H. Robinson of Lexington and Mark A. Robinson of Gaffney; a sister Judith C. Jamison of Savannah, Georgia, and eight grandchildren; and

Whereas, Mr. Joseph Clyde Robinson earned the respect and admiration of all who knew and loved him and the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina are proud to honor the many contributions that he made to his community, State, and Nation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the death of Joseph Clyde Robinson of Beaufort, a brave and courageous firefighter, and extend their deepest sympathy to his family and many friends.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Frances J. Shibilio Robinson of Beaufort.
