A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 4-11-10, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE TIME FOR THE COMMENCEMENT OF TERMS OF COUNTY OFFICERS, SO AS TO CLARIFY WHEN THE TERMS OF OFFICE BEGIN AND END AND TO PROVIDE THAT THIS SECTION DOES NOT APPLY TO THOSE OFFICERS WHOSE TERMS OF OFFICE ARE SET BY ANOTHER PROVISION OF LAW.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 4-11-10 of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 21 of 1987, is further amended to read:

"Section 4-11-10.    The time for the commencement of the terms of office of the various county officers is four years and begins at noon on the first Tuesday in January next after their following the November general election, and ends at noon on the first Tuesday in January following the November general election four years later, except that the terms of the county auditors and county treasurers shall commence the first day of July next following their election. Nothing in this section applies to those officers who are appointed by the Governor or whose term of office is set by another provision of law. This section does not apply to elections held for an unexpired term of office."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
