A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 7-13-1670, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE EXHIBITION AND DEMONSTRATION OF A VOTING MACHINE, SO AS TO REQUIRE INSTEAD OF MAKING IT OPTIONAL FOR THE COMMISSIONERS OF ELECTION OR OTHER ELECTORAL BOARD DESIGNATE SUITABLE AND ADEQUATE TIMES AND PLACES FOR THE EXHIBITION AND DEMONSTRATION OF A VOTING MACHINE CONTAINING A SAMPLE BALLOT.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 7-13-1670 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 7-13-1670.    In any a county, city or town municipality in which voting machines are to be used, the commissioners of election or other electoral board may shall designate suitable and adequate times and places for the exhibition and demonstration of a voting machine containing sample ballots, showing the title of offices to be filled and, so far as practicable, the names of the candidates to be voted for at the next election for the purpose of giving instruction as to the use of a voting machine to all voters who may apply for it. No A voting machine shall may not be used for such this instruction after being prepared and sealed for use in an election. During such this exhibition, the counting mechanism of the voting machine shall must be concealed from view."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
