EXPRESSING THE BEST WISHES OF THE STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA TO CLARENCE DERRILL McCONNELL, CHIEF OF POLICE OF THE CITY OF ANDERSON POLICE DEPARTMENT, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT MAY 24, 2005.
Whereas, Clarence Derrill McConnell retires May 24, 2005, as the Chief of Police for the City of Anderson, a post he has held with great integrity and skill for ten years; and
Whereas, Chief McConnell's entire forty-year law enforcement career has been with the City of Anderson Police Department; and
Whereas, after earning degrees from Anderson College and Forrest College, he went on to serve the people of Anderson with dedication as Lieutenant and then Captain over Records and Detention; and
Whereas, he was promoted to Interim Chief in June of 1995, only to be awarded the full time position six months later; and
Whereas, his ten years of leadership and guidance of the City of Anderson Police Department are marked by numerous accomplishments in protecting the safety and welfare of the citizens of Anderson; and
Whereas, Chief McConnell's presence on the force will be sorely missed, but his legacy of forty years of service will continue in the many contributions he leaves behind. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives express the best wishes of the State of South Carolina to Clarence Derrill McConnell, Chief of Police of the City of Anderson Police Department, on the occasion of his retirement May 24, 2005.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Chief McConnell.
