A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF DOCTOR RICHARD H. KLEIN UPON HIS RETIREMENT AND EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HIM ON HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly have learned that Doctor Richard H. Klein is retiring from his position as Associate Professor of Finance at Clemson University; and

Whereas, he earned his Bachelor of Science degree with a major in economics at the City College of New York, a Master of Business Administration from Dartmouth University, and a Ph.D. in Business Administration from the University of Texas; he also served as a lieutenant in the United States Army from 1962 until 1965; and

Whereas, from 1968 to 1981, Dr. Klein was an Associate Professor of Finance at Temple University in Philadelphia. During part of that time he was a Sears Roebuck Foundation Faculty Fellow while employed with the U.S. Small Business Administration; and

Whereas, in 1981, he became an Associate Professor of Finance at Clemson University and has served as the Chairman of his College's Curriculum Committee, Chairman of the Finance Department's Honors and Awards Committee, and Chairman of the University's Committee on the Handicapped; and

Whereas, Dr. Klein served as a board member of the Southern Carolinas Chapter of the Financial Executives International from 1985 to 2003 and was the Academic Relations Director; and

Whereas, he was the recipient of the Charles Dunn Academic Advising Award two times, the 1999-2000 Frank A. Burtner Award for Excellence in Advising, and the 1999-2000 College of Business and Public Affairs Service Excellence Award; and

Whereas, in 2001 and 2003, Dr. Klein received the Clemson University Board of Trustees' Award for Faculty Excellence and also has been recognized with the Cote Fellow for Excellence in Teaching and Service and the Outstanding Honors Professor for Excellence in Teaching; and

Whereas, he has introduced and integrated the use of computer-based financial spreadsheets, presentation programs, and the Internet in his courses and has taught graduate courses in Financial Management and Managerial Economics at Ben Gurion University in Beer Sheva, Israel; and

Whereas, Dr. Klein has written numerous articles, and is published in Financial Management, Mergers and Acquisitions, and the Journal of Financial Education and has been listed in Who's Who in Finance and Industry; and

Whereas, he has distinguished himself while serving as an Associate Professor of Finance at Clemson University and has performed a great service to his community and State. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly honor and recognize Doctor Richard H. Klein for his accomplishments and exemplary public service to the State of South Carolina and extend best wishes for a long and happy retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Klein.
