A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF MRS. KATHERYN "MARJORIE" MEANS BELLFIELD AND COMMEND HER FOR A LIFETIME OF SERVICE TO HER COMMUNITY AND STATE.

Whereas, Mrs. Katheryn "Marjorie" Means Bellfield is the daughter of the late Henrietta Lillian and David H. Means, Sr., and she was married to the late Brainard R. Bellfield, who spent his career with the United States Postal Service in Washington D.C.; and

Whereas, Mrs. Bellfield was born and raised in the City of Columbia, attended Booker T. Washington High School, graduated from Allen University with a B.S. Degree in Business Education, and later received certification in Early Childhood Education; and

Whereas, Marjorie Bellfield spent thirty-five years teaching at Fairwold Elementary School, presently Pendergrass Fairwold Elementary School, and Roosevelt Village, presently E. E. Taylor Elementary School, she is also a lifetime member of the National Education Association; and

Whereas, since 1947, she has served as President of the Booker Washington Heights Neighborhood Association, and also served ten years on the Zoning Board of Adjustments for the City of Columbia; and

Whereas, among other titles and positions, Mrs. Bellfield presently serves as Commissioner of the Columbia Housing Authority, Director of the Eau Claire Shepherd Center, and President of the Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1946; and

Whereas, she has served on the board of trustees of the Historic Columbia Foundation, as a board member of the Columbia Design Center, and as a member of the Sumter-Columbia Empowerment Board; and

Whereas, Marjorie Bellfield has received countless awards and honors, including Outstanding Neighborhood Achievement Award from the Mayor of Columbia, the Neighborhood Summit Award for membership appreciation, and the Neighborhood Crime Prevention program award for outstanding service in crime prevention; and

Whereas, Mrs. Bellfield continues working as a tireless volunteer for the Booker Washington Heights Community. She has been responsible for bringing a host of activities to the Booker Washington Heights Community to include playground equipment, summer camps, youth employment, neighborhood cleanups, the E. B. Sessions Park, sidewalks, and drainage; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and honor this truly lovely lady for all she has done in service to others and for making her community a better place to live and work. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize the many accomplishments of Mrs. Katheryn "Marjorie" Means Bellfield and commend her for a lifetime of service to her community and State.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded Mrs. Bellfield.
