A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 59-1-370, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE CLOSING OF EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS ON GENERAL ELECTION DAY, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT UPON A MAJORITY VOTE OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT MAY CHOOSE TO CLOSE ON GENERAL ELECTION DAY EACH YEAR.

Amend Title To Conform

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 59-1-370 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 59-1-370.    (A)    All State-supported colleges and universities, and technical education centers and public schools shall must be closed general election day in November of each even-numbered year.

(B)    Upon a majority vote of the board of trustees, each school district may choose to close its schools on general election day in November of each even-numbered year, when none of its schools is being used as a polling place. If the school district chooses to close its schools, This this day shall must not be considered as one of the regular school days for the year for public schools."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
