A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING THE REVEREND HILDA MCMAHAND OF GREENVILLE COUNTY ON THE OCCASION OF HER SEVENTY-FIFTH BIRTHDAY AND EXPRESSING HEARTFELT GRATITUDE FOR HER MANY YEARS OF SERVICE TO HER CHURCH AND HER COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the Reverend Hilda McMahand of Greenville County, celebrated her seventy-fifth birthday and the forty-eighth anniversary of her ministry at a gala gathering of family and friends April 30, 2005; and

Whereas, the Family Life Center at Flat Rock Baptist Church in Piedmont, the church pastored by her husband, the Reverend W. B. McMahand, and served by her as associate pastor, was the site of the inspiring event; and

Whereas, Pastor Hilda McMahand earned a Masters of Theology degree from the Southern Bible Seminary in Birmingham, Alabama, and served the Christian Methodist denomination for twenty-one years and pastored five churches before her marriage in 1973; and

Whereas, this stepmother to six children, grandmother of nineteen, and great-grandmother of twenty-seven, has devoted her life to her family, her church, and her community; and

Whereas, her contributions to Flat Rock Baptist and the Greenville County Ministers' Wives and Widows group have enhanced the spiritual lives of countless people; and

Whereas, her community efforts include active participation in the Democratic Women and United Ministries, and her vital and inspirational outreach also includes the authorship of two books, Stop the Killing and Thou Shall Not Kill; and

Whereas, it is a privilege for the General Assembly to pay tribute to South Carolinians who invest so much energy and love in their fellow citizens. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize the Reverend Hilda McMahand of Greenville County on the occasion of her seventy-fifth birthday and express heartfelt gratitude for her many years of service to her church and her community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Reverend Hilda McMahand.
