A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE PROFOUND SORROW OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES UPON THE PASSING OF JOSEPH EDWARD CHILDS OF GREENVILLE COUNTY AND TO OFFER HIS FAMILY AND MANY FRIENDS OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were deeply saddened by news of the death of Mr. Joseph Edward Childs on February 9, 2006; and

Whereas, born on August 12, 1911 in Marietta, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Ira Knoll Childs and Minnie Grove Childs; and

Whereas, dedicated to his work and providing for his family, Mr. Childs led a 42-year career as a factory representative for Armstrong Cork Company and retired in 1972; and

Whereas, a devoted family man, Mr. Childs celebrated a loving, 68-year marriage to his wife, Romola Lendrem Childs and enjoyed his three children, Kenneth Lendrem Childs, Victoria Grove Childs, and Deborah Joanne Childs. He also was the doting grandfather of four beautiful grandchildren, Edward Jason Dennis, Jessie Willard Strickland, Mona Victoria Strickland, and Tiffany Scarlett Strickland; and

Whereas, a moving memorial service was held in his honor on Saturday, February 11, 2006 in the Harper Chapel of First Presbyterian Church in Greenville, South Carolina; and

Whereas, though Mr. Childs is sorely missed, his legacy will live on in the lives and work of all whom he touched, and the impact he made on his community and on South Carolina as a whole will not soon be forgotten. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, express their profound sorrow upon the passing of Joseph Edward Childs of Greenville County and offer his family and many friends our deepest sympathy.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Childs' son, Kenneth Lendrem Childs.
