A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE WEST METRO BREAKFAST ROTARY CLUB ON CELEBRATING THE CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION FOR ROTARY INTERNATIONAL, AND TO RECOGNIZE THE ROTARY CLUB FOR ITS CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY.

Whereas, Rotary was started on February 23, 1905, in downtown Chicago by Paul R. Harris, who met with three business associates, a group that would eventually spawn the world's first service organization; and

Whereas, the group that began small came to have international consequences as it expanded throughout the United States and across international borders to form Rotary International, dedicated to humanitarian service and peace; and

Whereas, throughout its history Rotary seeks to transcend geographic, religious, racial, political, social, and other barriers as it provides more than 1.4 billion dollars for service projects throughout the world and serves as leaders in the global fight against polio; and

Whereas, in addition to its service projects, Rotary also sponsors the world's largest privately funded international scholarship program and one of the world's most popular youth exchange programs; and

Whereas, the West Metro Breakfast Rotary Club was founded in June, 2003; and

Whereas, this outstanding Rotary Club serves the Cayce, West Columbia, and Springdale areas and seeks to live be the Rotary Motto of "Service Above Self"; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure and admiration that the South Carolina Senate applauds the West Metro Breakfast Rotary Club and Rotary International for its local and international benevolence. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the West Metro Breakfast Rotary Club on celebrating the Centennial Celebration for Rotary International, and recognize the Rotary Club for its contributions to the community.

Be it resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the West Metro Breakfast Rotary Club.
