TO CONGRATULATE MICHELE TAYLOR-BROWN, KINDERGARTEN TEACHER AT RICE CREEK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN RICHLAND COUNTY, ON BEING NAMED RICHLAND COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICT TWO TEACHER OF THE YEAR AND A FINALIST FOR THE SOUTH CAROLINA TEACHER OF THE YEAR FOR 2005-2006, AND TO EXTEND SINCERE APPRECIATION FOR HER OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AND MANY CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION IN SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives were pleased to learn that Rice Creek Elementary School kindergarten teacher Michele Taylor-Brown was named the Richland County School District Two Teacher of the Year and is also one of five finalists for South Carolina Teacher of the Year for 2005-2006; and
Whereas, Ms. Taylor-Brown received both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and a Master of Education degree from the University of South Carolina; and
Whereas, she is National Board Certified and has been making a positive impact on young children's lives as a teacher for sixteen years; and
Whereas, Ms. Taylor-Brown's concern and commitment to providing her students with the best education possible is evident by her numerous contributions outside the classroom; currently playing leadership roles in a number of local educational organizations including vice chairman for the Richland County School District Two Teacher Forum, vice chairman for the Richland County School District Two Leadership Council, and chairman of the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support Committee at Rice Creek Elementary School; and
Whereas, she is also affiliated with several statewide educational organizations including the South Carolina Association for Supervision and Curriculum, the Columbia Area Reading Council, and the South Carolina Alliance of Black School Educators; and
Whereas, she is a caring, compassionate, and highly qualified teacher who strives to provide educational equity to all children; and
Whereas, she has been recognized by her peers as possessing quiet but powerful leadership skills while at the same time sincerely caring for every child she teaches; and
Whereas, she creates a classroom community in which diversity is valued and respect and support are abundant; and
Whereas, it is appropriate for the members of the House of Representatives to pause in their deliberations to honor Michele Taylor-Brown who amply demonstrates the qualities of a model teacher that not only educates the children of South Carolina but provide for them the opportunity to live complete and successful lives as the future leaders of our community. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Ms. Michele Taylor-Brown, kindergarten teacher at Rice Creek Elementary School in Richland County, on being named Richland County School District Two Teacher of the Year and a finalist for the South Carolina Teacher of the Year for 2005-2006, and extend sincere appreciation for her outstanding leadership and many contributions to education in South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Ms. Michele Taylor-Brown.
