A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND THE CONGRATULATIONS OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO THE CHRIST CHURCH EPISCOPAL SCHOOL BOYS TENNIS TEAM OF GREENVILLE COUNTY FOR ITS OUTSTANDING DETERMINATION AND HARD WORK THROUGHOUT ITS SEASON AND ON CAPTURING THE 2006 CLASS AA/A BOYS TENNIS STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE FOR THE EIGHTH CONSECUTIVE YEAR.

Whereas, to excel at tennis demands individual strength, agility, and skill as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using those talents and attributes, Head Coach Bobby Austell, Assistant Coach Sally Shurtz, and the members of the Christ Church "Cavaliers" Boys Tennis Team finished their season with the 2006 Class AA/A State Championship title when they defeated Waccamaw High School 4-3; and

Whereas, this state championship marks the team's twenty-first state title since 1976, more state championships captured by one team in any sport and in all size classifications in the state; and

Whereas, this state championship marks the eighth consecutive state title, more than any other boys tennis team in all size classifications in the state's history; and

Whereas, Christ Church Episcopal School placed first at the Buccaneer Invitational Tournament in Charlotte, North Carolina, among eight of the best schools from a three state area; and placed fourteenth at the National High School All-American Invitational Tournament at Newport Beach, California, with the team's number one and two players, Will Guzick and Henry Walker, being named to the All-Tournament Team while the team won the "Stan Smith Team Sportsmanship Award"; and

Whereas, the members of the 2006 Christ Church Episcopal School Cavaliers Boys Tennis Team, following the leadership of senior captains Will Guzick and Henry Walker, are: Rob Galloway, Connor Evins, Christopher Lawdahl, Philip Canale, Chandler Catanzaro, Blake Sieber and Hunter Sieber; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that we recognize these history-making young men and their coaches and hope that they will further enhance those abilities not only in their tennis pursuits but in developing those life skills learned through athletic excellence. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, extend their congratulations to the Christ Church Episcopal School Boys Tennis Team of Greenville County for its outstanding determination, hard work, and pursuit of excellence throughout its season and on capturing the 2006 Class AA/A Boys Tennis State Championship Title.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Christ Church Episcopal School Boys Tennis Team of Greenville, South Carolina.
