TO AMEND SECTION 56-3-130, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE EXEMPTION OF CERTAIN BOAT TRAILERS, FARM TRAILERS, AND UTILITY TRAILERS FROM BEING LICENSED OR REGISTERED, SO AS TO PROVIDE THAT CERTAIN TRAILERS THAT ARE USED IN CONNECTION WITH A BUSINESS VENTURE OF ITS OWNER ARE EXEMPT FROM BEING LICENSED OR REGISTERED; AND TO AMEND SECTION 56-5-4580, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO LIGHTING EQUIPMENT THAT MUST BE ATTACHED TO BUSES, TRUCKS, TRAILERS, SEMITRAILERS, AND POLE TRAILERS, SO AS TO REQUIRE ALL TRAILERS, SEMITRAILERS, AND POLE TRAILERS WEIGHING THREE THOUSAND POUNDS GROSS OR LESS TO BE EQUIPPED WITH ONE STOP LIGHT.
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:
SECTION 1. Section 56-3-130 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:
"Section 56-3-130. Boat trailers under twenty-five hundred pounds, farm trailers and other utility trailers which are privately owned and not for hire or used in connection with a business venture of its owner need not be licensed or registered."
SECTION 2. Section 56-5-4580(6) of the 1976 Code is further amended to read:
"(6) On every trailer, semitrailer, or pole trailer weighing three thousand pounds gross or less, on the rear two reflectors, one on each side. If a trailer or semitrailer is loaded or is of dimensions so as to obscure the stop light on the towing vehicle then the vehicle also must be equipped with and one stop light;"
SECTION 3. This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
