A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND MICHAEL J. MUNGO OF LEXINGTON COUNTY FOR RECEIVING THE INDIAN WATERS COUNCIL OF THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA, 2005 DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN AWARD, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH SUCCESS IN HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, Mr. Michael J. Mungo consistently lives by the ideals of commitment to family, God, and country, and he has enriched the State of South Carolina and its communities through his involvement and extreme generosity; and

Whereas, it is for these reasons that developer and builder, Michael J. Mungo, received the 2005 Distinguished Citizen Award from the Indian Waters Council of the Boy Scouts of America; and

Whereas, Mr. Mungo's accomplishments during the 1960's through the 1980's led to his becoming the largest residential developer and builder in the State; and

Whereas, for more than forty years, the Mungo Company has sold over fifteen thousand homesites and continues to thrive; and

Whereas, Mr. Mungo has also contributed to his community through his involvement in numerous civic organizations and as a member of many boards and commissions; and

Whereas, among other positions, Mr. Mungo is a current member and past Chairman of the University of South Carolina Board of Trustees, served as the South Carolina Chairman of the United Negro College Fund, devised the Governor's Advisory Commission on Housing which is now the South Carolina Housing Authority, founded the Irmo Fire District, served under Federal Judge Hemphill in settling school and integration cases, and is a member of Good Shepherd Church Vestry. He has received the Order of the Palmetto and was inducted into the South Carolina Housing Hall of Fame; and

Whereas, he also served in the Army Air Corps and the United States Air Force during the Korean War; and

Whereas, a son of South Carolina, Mr. Mungo was born in Bethune and is married to the former Jennifer Brewer. Mr. Mungo has two sons, Michael Stewart Mungo and Steven Whiteford Mungo; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina Senate commend Michael J. Mungo for his countless contributions to his community and the State as he receives the 2005 Distinguished Citizen Award from the Indian Waters Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and commend Michael J. Mungo of Lexington County for receiving the Indian Waters Council of the Boy Scouts of America, 2005 Distinguished Citizen Award and wish him much success in his future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Michael J. Mungo of Lexington County.
