A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 7-7-240, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE DESIGNATION OF VOTING PRECINCTS IN EDGEFIELD COUNTY, SO AS TO REVISE AND RENAME CERTAIN VOTING PRECINCTS OF EDGEFIELD COUNTY, TO DESIGNATE A MAP NUMBER FOR THE MAP ON WHICH LINES OF THESE PRECINCTS ARE DELINEATED AND MAINTAINED BY THE OFFICE OF RESEARCH AND STATISTICS OF THE STATE BUDGET AND CONTROL BOARD, TO PROVIDE THAT THE POLLING PLACES FOR EDGEFIELD COUNTY MUST BE DETERMINED BY THE REGISTRATION AND ELECTIONS COMMISSION FOR EDGEFIELD COUNTY WITH THE APPROVAL OF A MAJORITY OF THE EDGEFIELD COUNTY LEGISLATIVE DELEGATION, AND TO CORRECT ARCHAIC LANGUAGE.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 7-7-240 of the 1976 Code is amended to read:

"Section 7-7-240.    (A)    In Edgefield County there shall be are the following voting precincts:

Edgefield No. 1;

Edgefield No. 2;

Kendall;

Johnston No. 1;

Johnston No. 2;

Trenton;

Merriweather;

Merriweather No. 1

Merriweather No. 2

West Side;

Harmony;

North Side; and

Brunson.

(B)    The precinct lines defining the above precincts are as shown on maps filed with the Clerk of Court of the county and also on file with the State Election Commission as provided and to the Registration and Elections Commission for Edgefield County as maintained by the Division Office of Research and Statistical Services Statistics of the State Budget and Control Board and designated as document P-37-05.

(C)    Polling places for the precincts provided in this section must be determined by the Registration and Elections Commission for Edgefield County with the approval of a majority of the Edgefield County Legislative Delegation."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
