EXPRESSING THE GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION OF THE MEMBERS OF THE SENATE TO GEORGE P. GINTOLI, DIRECTOR OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH, FOR HIS EXEMPLARY PUBLIC SERVICE TO CITIZENS OF SOUTH CAROLINA.
Whereas, upon learning that George P. Gintoli is stepping down from his position as Director of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health to pursue a new position in the private sector, the members of the South Carolina Senate would like to extend sincere appreciation for his service; and
Whereas, Mr. Gintoli graduated from Sacred Heart University with a degree in psychology and earned his Master's degree in criminal justice from the University of New Haven; he also has participated in prestigious executive leadership training programs in the field of mental health; and
Whereas, in January 2001, Mr. Gintoli began his tenure as the State Director of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health; and
Whereas, as Director of the Department of Mental Health, Mr. Gintoli developed a comprehensive, five-year plan for children, adolescents, and families called "Blueprint for Resilience", he also began the development of a new community strategic plan for adult consumers of mental health services; and
Whereas, under Mr. Gintoli's leadership, ninety-seven new housing units were added, a Mental Health Court in Marlboro County was opened, ground was broken on a two hundred twenty-bed, twenty-eight million dollar nursing home for veterans, and the Department of Mental Health met the goal of reducing the number of people with mental illness waiting in hospital emergency rooms by fifty percent; and
Whereas, as Director, George Gintoli had all mental health centers and hospitals accredited, formed advisory boards for psychiatric hospitals, opened a clinic for children and adolescents with mental illness who are also hearing impaired, which currently serves as a national model, and created numerous other programs that will benefit the State long into the future; and
Whereas, George Gintoli has served above and beyond the call of duty throughout his stint as the Director of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health and has preformed a great service to his community and State. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the South Carolina Senate hereby express their gratitude and appreciation to George P. Gintoli, Director of the South Carolina Department of Mental Health, for his exemplary public service to the citizens of South Carolina.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Gintoli.
