A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE NOELLE THOMPSON OF DORCHESTER COUNTY FOR HER IMPRESSIVE FIRST PLACE AWARD IN THE THIRD GRADE CATEGORY OF THE 2005 READING RAINBOW YOUNG WRITERS AND ILLUSTRATORS CONTEST AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES TO HER IN THE NATIONAL READING RAINBOW COMPETITION AND IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina Senate recognizes young people with extraordinary talent and promise who are certain to achieve greatness in their individual communities and in this State as a whole; and

Whereas, Noelle Thompson, a third grade student at Oakbrook Elementary School in Dorchester School District Two, 89 brought tremendous pride to her family, school, and community when her entry, "Run Away Home", was chosen from over two hundred other South Carolina entries as the best in the third grade category of the Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest; and

Whereas, Noelle's classmates and teachers took part in the celebration of her award as Educational Television's mascot, Smart Cat, presented her with the first place prize during a school ceremony on May 23, 2005; and

Whereas, Noelle's winning story will now be a part of the National Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest, where she will compete for the Reading Rainbow Contest grand prize; and

Whereas, the Reading Rainbow Contest encourages children from kindergarten through third grade to write and illustrate their own stories; and

Whereas, Noelle is no stranger to victory, as she took home the first place award in the first grade category in 2003 National Reading Rainbow Contest, when her story, "Little Bee's Big Journey", was chosen from over 42,000 entries; and

Whereas, a product of South Carolina public education, Noelle stands as a model student, and the members of the South Carolina Senate anticipate great success and many accomplishments for Noelle in all her coming years. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate Noelle Thompson of Dorchester County for her impressive first place award in the third grade category of the 2005 Reading Rainbow Young Writers and Illustrators Contest, and extend best wishes to her in the National Reading Rainbow competition and in all her future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Miss Noelle Thompson and her family.
