A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

RECOGNIZING NORTHSIDE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL OF THE ARTS FOR RECEIVING THE KENNEDY CENTER CREATIVE TICKET AWARD.

Whereas, the Creative Ticket Award provides a platform for the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts Education Network and the South Carolina Alliance of Arts Educators to honor schools that have developed exemplary arts education programs; and

Whereas, the Creative Ticket Schools Awards program was launched in 1999 to recognize public schools that have done an outstanding job of making the arts essential to the education of their students; and

Whereas, the South Carolina Alliance for Arts Education selected Northside Elementary School of the Arts to receive the State Level Creative Ticket-Schools of Excellence Award and nominated Northside Elementary School of the Arts to compete on the national level for the Creative Ticket-National Schools of Distinction Award. This award honors up to five schools each year from across the nation that provide teaching programs in the four basic art forms of music, visual arts, dance, and theatre. These teaching programs include providing imaginative learning environments, parental involvement, promoting learning about other cultures, and encouraging community connections; and

Whereas, Northside Elementary School of the Arts is located in Rock Hill School District III and was one of five schools recognized nationally; and

Whereas, Northside Elementary School of the Arts has been invited to perform at the Kennedy Center on the Millennium Stage in March 2008. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the South Carolina General Assembly recognizes Northside Elementary School of the Arts for receiving the Kennedy Center Creative Ticket Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Northside Elementary School of the Arts.
