A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND RECOGNIZE WILLIAM RUTLEDGE "RUT" DINGLE, PRINCIPAL OF SUMTER HIGH SCHOOL, FOR HIS DEDICATION AND HARD WORK AS AN EDUCATOR, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR BEING SELECTED THE 2008 METLIFE/NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOL PRINCIPALS SECONDARY PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are pleased to learn that William Rutledge "Rut" Dingle has served as an educator for thirty-five years and as an administrator for over fourteen years and that he was recently named 2008 MetLife/National Association of Secondary School Principals Secondary Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators; and

Whereas, in preparation to become an educator, Rut Dingle earned a bachelor of arts in history from Presbyterian College, and from the University of South Carolina, he earned a master of arts in educational administration, as well as an advanced degree as an education specialist; and

Whereas, before coming to Sumter High School, he taught history and psychology at Lugoff-Elgin High School from 1973 to 1986 and was an assistant coach for football and basketball and the head coach for track and field and for football; and

Whereas, beginning in 1986, Rut Dingle continued at Sumter High School as a teacher and coach; and

Whereas, under his leadership for the last ten years, Sumter High School has been named an International Baccalaureate Diploma School, the Model High School for South Carolina, a Grammy Signature School and part of the High Schools That Work initiative; and

Whereas, Sumter High School's graduation rate increased from just over seventy-five percent in 2005 to over eighty percent in 2006; and

Whereas, Rut Dingle has served as president of the Secondary Principal's Division of the South Carolina Association of Secondary Administrators and as president of the entire organization, and he has been recognized as a Class AAAA Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Athletic Administrators Association; and

Whereas, he has served his community in the Sunrise Rotary Club as its past president and on the Derthick Education Foundation Board of Directors, and he is an elder in First Presbyterian Church of Sumter; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina Senate are grateful for Rutledge "Rut" Dingle and his devoted and exemplary service in educating the youth of South Carolina and extend to him warmest congratulations on his receipt of this truly deserved award. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, honor and recognize William Rutledge "Rut" Dingle, principal of Sumter High School, for his dedication and hard work as an educator, and congratulate him for being selected the 2008 MetLife/National Association of Secondary School Principals Secondary Principal of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to William Rutledge "Rut" Dingle.
