A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR NORTH MYRTLE BEACH'S ALABAMA THEATRE FOR ITS DEDICATED PHILANTHROPIC SUPPORT OF SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the Senate recognizes those South Carolina establishments that give generously for the benefit of children in need; and

Whereas, among such establishments, North Myrtle Beach's Alabama Theatre stands as a prime example of long-term commitment and caring through its many contributions made throughout the years in support of Shriners Hospitals for Children; and

Whereas, a network of pediatric specialty hospitals founded by the Shrine, Shriners Hospitals for Children offers any child under the age of eighteen excellent medical care absolutely free of charge. The network includes eighteen orthopedic hospitals, three hospitals dedicated to treating children with severe burns, and one hospital that provides orthopedic and burn care, as well as care for spinal cord injuries; and

Whereas, in support of this charitable endeavor, Alabama Theatre has given benevolently to Shriners Hospitals for Children a portion of the proceeds from group tickets sold to Shrine groups, in addition to moneys dropped into a "wishing well" long maintained in the lobby of the theatre; and

Whereas, the Alabama Theatre is the recipient of the distinguished Gold Book Society Award, given by the Imperial Shrine of North America to the theatre for its generous gifts to Shriners Hospitals for Children, gifts that enable the hospitals to continue bringing hope and peace to children in need of medical services; and

Whereas, the Senate is pleased to add its commendation to that of the Shriners for Alabama Theatre's ongoing philanthropic endeavors to support this worthy cause. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, recognize and honor North Myrtle Beach's Alabama Theatre for its dedicated philanthropic support of Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Alabama Theatre.
