A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE BLYTHEWOOD HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM FOR ITS STELLAR SEASON AND FOR CAPTURING THE CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND TO HONOR THE TEAM'S SUPERLATIVE PLAYERS, COACHES, AND STAFF.

Whereas, the Bengals of Blythewood High School defeated Timberland High School 23-21 on Saturday, December 2, 2006, at Columbia's Williams-Brice Stadium, to capture the Class AAA Championship title; and

Whereas, Head Coach Jeff Scott and his assistant coaches, with grueling practices, hard work, and determination, built their first-year varsity football program into a championship team; and

Whereas, Blythewood High School's first-year varsity program is the first such program in South Carolina's history to win a state championship; and

Whereas, this crowning victory caps an excellent season for the Bengals, with fourteen wins and only one loss; and

Whereas, these players and the coaches of Blythewood High School deserve tribute for their incredible season and championship win; and

Whereas, the Bengals have brought great pride and recognition to their school and community, and the members of the General Assembly are pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a wonderful group of young men. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Blythewood High School varsity football team for its stellar season and for capturing the Class AAA State Championship title, and honor the team's superlative players, coaches, and staff.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Blythewood High School.
