VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR GRACE ELIZABETH DARRAGH HINTON OF GREENWOOD COUNTY ON THE HAPPY OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDRED SECOND BIRTHDAY AND TO WISH HER ALL THE BEST IN THE COMING YEAR.
Whereas, Grace Elizabeth Darragh Hinton was born to her proud parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Darragh, on January 22, 1905, in Greenwood County; and
Whereas, beloved by her neighbors and many friends, she is affectionately known as "Miss Grace"; and
Whereas, Mrs. Hinton shared a loving marriage with the late Mr. Sam Hinton. Together, they were blessed with four devoted daughters, Dorothy Burnett, Doris White, Marian Gentry, and Peggy Truitt; and
Whereas, born with a proverbial "green thumb", she loves flowers and working in her garden and attributes her longevity to staying active; and
Whereas, extraordinarily independent, Mrs. Hinton is able to do many things on her own. She walks with no assistance, survived influenza, pneumonia, and a broken hip in 2006, and can read without the assistance of glasses; and
Whereas, the joyous occasion of Mrs. Hinton's one hundred second birthday will not be confined to the local news and chatter. Nationally renowned weatherman Willard Scott will announce her birthday during the Today Show on January 23, 2007; and
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina Senate pause to commend Mrs. Hinton for the many ways in which she has enriched the lives of those around her for over a century, and it is certain that this lovely South Carolina lady will continue to do so in her one hundred second year. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Grace Elizabeth Darragh Hinton of Greenwood County on the happy occasion of her one hundred second birthday and wish her all the best in the coming year.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Grace Elizabeth Darragh Hinton.
