VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE THE GAFFNEY HIGH SCHOOL INDIANS VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING WIN OF THE 2006 DIVISION I AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND THEIR COACH, PHIL STRICKLAND, ON AN EXCEPTIONAL, RECORD-BREAKING SEASON.
Whereas, excellence in football demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and
Whereas, using those talents and attributes, Coach Phil Strickland and the members of the Gaffney High School Varsity Football Team capped an incredible season by winning the 2006 Division I AAAA State Championship; and
Whereas, fiercely competitive, the team was virtually unstoppable during regular season play, setting a school record of fifteen wins in one season; and
Whereas, throughout the season the team showed great confidence, attributable to Coach Phil Strickland, whose time and energy spent encouraging his team to play up to their individual and collective abilities necessarily led to their successes; and
Whereas, the 2006 championship trophy stands in good company, as this year's triumph marks the team's sixteenth state championship win and sets a state record for such victories; and
Whereas, ranked eleventh in the entire nation, the Gaffney High School Varsity Football Team brings positive recognition not only upon itself but upon our State as well for its amazing prowess on and off the field; and
Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives take great pride in commending the young men of the Gaffney High School Varsity Football Team for their tireless efforts and great determination in this banner season and recognize them for this wonderful accomplishment. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Gaffney High School Indians Varsity Football Team for its outstanding win of the 2006 Division I AAAA State Championship, and honor the players and their coach, Phil Strickland, on an exceptional, record-breaking season.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Phil Strickland.
