A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE HAND MIDDLE SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM ON ITS FIRST-PLACE FINISH IN THE 2006 SOUTH CAROLINA BAR LAW RELATED EDUCATION STATE MIDDLE SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL COMPETITION.

Whereas, the Hand Middle School mock trial team outperformed teams from nine other state middle and junior high schools to win the 2006 South Carolina Bar Law Related Education State Middle School Mock Trial Competition, held on December 2, 2006, at Lexington's Marc Westbrook Judicial Center; and

Whereas, sponsored by the South Carolina Bar's Law Related Education Division and made possible through an IOLTA grant from the South Carolina Bar Foundation, the mock trials were judged by volunteer lawyers who served as attorney coaches, scoring judges, and presiding judges; and

Whereas, coached by Robert Lominack and Medina Boggs into a top-flight competitor, this Columbia school's powerhouse mock trial team is composed of Lizzie Adkins, Kendall Beard, Dayne Burns, Priscilla Davis, Brandon Foster, Zachary Hodges, Madison Matheus, Sarah Rhu, and Allison Schweickert; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing such a talented group of young people as the Hand Middle School mock trial team and expects to hear of continued excellence and further noteworthy achievements on its part in the future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate the Hand Middle School mock trial team on its first-place finish in the 2006 South Carolina Bar Law Related Education State Middle School Mock Trial Competition.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the principal of Hand Middle School, Marisa Vickers, and the Hand Middle School mock trial team.
