VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE DESIREE LEWIS, OF ORANGEBURG, ON BEING CROWNED MISS BLACK SOUTH CAROLINA USA 2007 AND WISH HER MUCH SUCCESS DURING HER REIGN AND IN ALL HER FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, Desiree Lewis, of Orangeburg, was crowned Miss Black South Carolina USA 2007 and will represent South Carolina in the Miss Black USA Pageant in April 2007, in Gambia, Africa; and
Whereas, the daughter of Delroy and Lolitta Lewis, she has two sisters, Dr. Dana Natasha Lewis and Lavita Lewis; and
Whereas, having both intelligence and beauty, Desiree received a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development in 2003 from Claflin University, graduating magna cum laude, and later earned her master's degree in early childhood education at South Carolina State University in 2005; and
Whereas, currently a first-grade teacher at Mellichamp Elementary School in Orangeburg, she desires to promote literacy among African American youth as part of her mission as Miss Black South Carolina USA 2007; and
Whereas, she looks forward to serving as an ambassador for South Carolina and speaking about important issues affecting young people today, especially as she seeks to share the excitement and necessity of effective reading, writing, and communicating with young African Americans; and
Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly takes great pleasure in recognizing such an outstanding young woman and representative of the State of South Carolina as Desiree Lewis. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Desiree Lewis, of Orangeburg, on being crowned Miss Black South Carolina USA 2007 and wish her much success during her reign and in all her future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Desiree Lewis, Miss Black South Carolina USA 2007.
