A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR DELORIS M. YOUNG, PASTOR AND FOUNDER OF THE GREATER PENTECOSTAL TEMPLE, INCORPORATED, FOR HER OUTSTANDING COMMITMENT TO THE CHURCH AND ITS PEOPLE AS THE CHURCH ENTERS INTO ITS TWENTY-SIXTH YEAR OF SERVICE TO THE GLORY OF GOD.

Whereas, directed by God to proclaim the gospel in Hardeeville, South Carolina, Deloris M. Young established the Greater Pentecostal Temple, Incorporated, in 1981; and

Whereas, through the power of prayer and the unfailing leadership of Pastor Young, the church has grown from its initial four members to the large congregation it is today; and

Whereas, in December 1988, outgrowing the original sanctuary that could seat only seventy-five people, the church moved into the present building, which can seat over five hundred worshippers; and

Whereas, further building additions include the Agape Academy Annex, built in 1993, and dedicated by Suffragan Bishop Willie B. Mitchell, and the Agape Family Life Center, built in 2000. Overwhelmingly generous with their tithes and offerings, congregants have given so much to the church over the years that it has been able to pay construction expenses without owing a mortgage; and

Whereas, offering numerous fellowship opportunities to it members, the Greater Pentecostal Temple shares in ministries devoted to men, women, youth, music, and singles, among others; and

Whereas, active in the Jasper community, the church opened the first Lowcounty Food Bank Distributor in Jasper County and partnered with the Jasper County School System to house satellite educational programs, such as GED preparation, adult computer literacy, and English as a second language courses. Members also are involved in Project Tender Heart and make visits to local nursing homes and lead addiction recovery classes; and

Whereas, Pastor Deloris M. Young was nominated to receive the WTOC Home Town Hero Award for her outstanding accomplishments in the Jasper County Community; and

Whereas, it is with great pride that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives pause in their deliberations to honor Pastor Deloris M. Young and the people of the Greater Pentecostal Temple for their immeasurable contributions to Jasper County and to the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Deloris M. Young, pastor and founder of the Greater Pentecostal Temple, Incorporated, for her outstanding commitment to the church and its people as the church enters into its twenty-sixth year of service to the glory of God.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Pastor Deloris M. Young.
