Whereas, after gaining experience at newspapers in Florida, working his way up from editor/writer of a Sunday magazine to editor of a Florida newspaper, Mr. Plumb moved to South Carolina in 1978 to become Editor of The Island Packet in Hilton Head, where he served until 1987, at that time accepting the position of Executive Editor of The Herald in Rock Hill, where he has served his newspaper and community well for the past ten years; and

Whereas, in preparation for his career, Terry C. Plumb graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts; and

Whereas, in service to his profession at large, he has served on the South Carolina Press Association's Executive Committee and Freedom of Information Committee, in addition to his duties as the association's past Treasurer, Vice President, and President and as a member and former Treasurer of the South Carolina Press Association Foundation Board of Directors; and

Whereas, not one to neglect his duty as a citizen, Mr. Plumb has served with many civic organizations, including the Rock Hill Sesquicentennial Steering Committee, Rock Hill's St. Anne Catholic Church Parish Council, the Rock Hill United Way Board of Directors, Rock Hill Arts Council Board of Directors, and the Governor's Juvenile Justice Youth Council (Sixteenth Judicial Circuit); and

Whereas, having made his mark and set the bar of achievement extraordinarily high for his newspaper, this icon of The Herald will be remembered with admiration and affection by both staff and community for years to come. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend Mr. Terry C. Plumb, of Rock Hill, for nearly thirty-seven years of dedicated service in the field of journalism upon his retirement, and wish him many years of health and happiness in his future endeavors.
