A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR BRENDA BYRD, OF DARLINGTON COUNTY, FOR BEING NAMED WINNER OF THE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL COACHES ASSOCIATION 2007 JOSTENS-BERENSON LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.

Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to note that Brenda Byrd, of Hartsville, has been named winner of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association 2007 Jostens-Berenson Lifetime Achievement Award; and

Whereas, the highest honor given to an individual by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association, the Jostens-Berenson Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes outstanding coaches with a lifelong commitment of service to the game of women's basketball, and Brenda Byrd fully exemplifies such a commitment; and

Whereas, while serving as an educator for more than thirty years, she taught and coached with the Darlington County Public Schools and Darlington Recreation Center, becoming known and loved not just for her many championships but primarily for the positive impact she left on the lives of the many young women she coached; and

Whereas, Ms. Byrd will be formally presented with the award at the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Awards Luncheon, presented by State Farm and Jostens, on Tuesday, April 3, 2007, in the Crowne Plaza's Grand Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio, the event being part of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association National Convention; and

Whereas, this honor is a fitting tribute to an exemplary educator with a high dedication to her calling equaling the eminence of the award, and the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing Brenda Byrd as its 2007 recipient. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Brenda Byrd, of Darlington County, for being named winner of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association 2007 Jostens-Berenson Lifetime Achievement Award.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Brenda Byrd.
