A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE LUGOFF-ELGIN MIDDLE SCHOOL FOR BEING NAMED SOUTH CAROLINA'S FIRST "SCHOOL TO WATCH" BY THE NATIONAL FORUM TO ACCELERATE MIDDLE-GRADES REFORM.

Whereas, Lugoff-Elgin Middle School has been named South Carolina's first "School to Watch" by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform, which honors high-performing middle schools; and

Whereas, the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform conferred this honor upon Lugoff-Elgin Middle School because of its "academic excellence, student-centered focus, and strong ties to the community"; and

Whereas, this Kershaw County school's dedicated faculty, administration, and staff are to be commended for their united strong support of student achievement, desire to continually improve, and recognition of their responsibility to nurture children of good character; and

Whereas, an alliance of sixty-five educators, researchers, national associations, and officers of professional organizations and foundations, the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform is committed to improving education in the middle grades; and

Whereas, founded in 1999 as a program to identify middle-grade schools across the country that are meeting or exceeding a set of strict criteria for excellence, the National Forum's Schools to Watch program currently includes fourteen states in its membership; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives takes great pleasure in recognizing the students, faculty, administration, and staff of such an exemplary middle school as Lugoff-Elgin and expects to hear of continued great achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize Lugoff-Elgin Middle School for being named South Carolina's first "School to Watch" by the National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Lugoff-Elgin Middle School.
