A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXPRESS THE GRATITUDE OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO BARACK OBAMA, UNITED STATES SENATOR FROM ILLINOIS, FOR DELIVERING THE MAIN ADDRESS AT THE APRIL 13, 2007, SOUTH CAROLINA LEGISLATIVE BLACK CAUCUS ROUND TABLE GALA.

Whereas, the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus will hold its Round Table Gala on April 13, 2007; and

Whereas, United States Senator Barack Obama has consented to address the members of the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus at this festive event; and

Whereas, a worthy speaker for such an august occasion as the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus Round Table Gala, Senator Obama has dedicated his life to public service as a community organizer, civil rights attorney, and leader in the Illinois State Senate and now continues his fight for working families following his recent election to the United States Senate; and

Whereas, sworn into office January 4, 2005, Senator Obama is focused on promoting economic growth and bringing good-paying jobs to Illinois and serves on the important Environment and Public Works Committee, the Veterans' Affairs Committee, and the Foreign Relations Committee; and

Whereas, among all his noteworthy achievements, Senator Obama is especially proud of being a husband and father, he and his wife, Michelle, now enjoying two daughters, Malia, age eight, and Sasha, age five, since their marriage in 1992. The family calls Chicago's South Side home and attends Trinity United Church of Christ in that area; and

Whereas, it has been the rich and varied experiences of Barack Obama's life that have animated his political journey and have enabled him to believe in the possibility of uniting people around a politics of purpose, one that puts solving the challenges of everyday Americans ahead of partisan calculation and political gain, and the South Carolina House of Representatives appreciates and admires this journey and its outworkings in Senator Obama's service in the United States Senate. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, express their gratitude to Barack Obama, United States Senator from Illinois, for delivering the main address at the April 13, 2007, South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus Round Table Gala.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to United States Senator Barack Obama.
