A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 50-21-870, AS AMENDED, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO VARIOUS PROVISIONS REGULATING THE USE AND OPERATION OF PERSONAL WATERCRAFT AND OTHER VESSELS, SO AS TO PROVIDE FOR RESTRICTIONS ON THE OPERATION OF CERTAIN WATERCRAFT, DEVICES OR VESSELS WITHIN ONE HUNDRED FEET OF A MOORED OR ANCHORED VESSEL, DOCK OR PIER, OR PERSON IN THE WATER IN CERTAIN PORTIONS OF MURRELLS INLET.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 50-21-870(B)(6) of the 1976 Code, as last amended by Act 124 of 1999, is further amended to read:

"(6)    operate a personal watercraft, specialty propcraft, or vessel while upon the waters of this State in excess of idle speed within 50 fifty feet of a moored or an anchored vessel, wharf, dock, bulkhead, pier, or a person in the water, or except as provided below, within 100 one hundred yards of the Atlantic Ocean coast line, or within one hundred feet of a moored or anchored vessel, wharf, dock, bulkhead, pier, or person in the water in the main channel of Murrells Inlet as marked by the Department of Natural Resources from the Horry County line to its convergence with the Atlantic Ocean past the Garden City jetty. The prohibitions contained in this item (6) do not apply to an unoccupied, moored vessel, or watercraft;"

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
