VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE NEWBERRY COLLEGE LADY INDIANS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR CAPTURING THE 2007 SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, AND FOR BEING THE FIRST PROGRAM IN THE HISTORY OF NEWBERRY COLLEGE ATHLETICS TO WIN BACK-TO-BACK SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS.
Whereas, the Newberry College Lady Indians basketball team captured the 2007 South Atlantic Conference Championship title with a 67-62 victory over Carson-Newman College of Tennessee at the conference tournament on March 4, 2007, in Hickory, North Carolina; and
Whereas, in winning the 2007 conference championship, the women's basketball team made history by becoming the first team in the history of Newberry College athletics to win back-to-back South Atlantic Conference Championships; and
Whereas, for the third consecutive year, the Lady Indians basketball program advanced to the first round of the NCAA Division II National Basketball Tournament; and
Whereas, the Lady Indians basketball team of Newberry College, in a season of great distinction, achieved a record of 24 wins and 7 losses, thereby endearing the team to sports fans at the college, in the Newberry community, and throughout this State; and
Whereas, the Lady Indians basketball team has brought tremendous excitement, attention, and pride to Newberry College, the City and County of Newberry, and the State of South Carolina, and the House of Representatives is pleased to have this opportunity to recognize such a wonderful group of talented young athletes and their coaches. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Newberry College Lady Indians basketball team for capturing the 2007 South Atlantic Conference Championship title, and for being the first program in the history of Newberry College athletics to win back-to-back South Atlantic Conference Championships.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach Jason Brink, Athletic Director Andy Carter, and President Mitchell M. Zais, of Newberry College.
