A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO WELCOME BROOK WADDLE BACK TO HER HOME IN LANDRUM AND COMMEND HER FAITH AND COURAGE THROUGHOUT MORE THAN A YEAR AND A HALF OF RECOVERY FROM INJURIES.

Whereas, for more than a year and a half, Brook Waddle has undergone intensive therapy for accident injuries sustained in 2005 and has recently returned to her home in Landrum; and

Whereas, during her time away from home, which included her senior year of high school, she was elected homecoming queen by admiring classmates and graduated with her class from her hospital bed at Shepherd Clinic in Atlanta, followed by a celebration hosted by clinic staff; and

Whereas, supported by her community, which has poured out its prayers on her behalf, she was welcomed home in style on Wednesday, May 9, 2007, with an escort, a parade through downtown Landrum, and waving well-wishers bearing banners of greeting and blowing kisses; and

Whereas, while receiving treatment at the Shepherd's Center in Atlanta, Brook found a dream: the desire to help others in her situation. To that end, she has turned her sights on college and, beginning in the fall of 2009, she hopes to earn a degree in counseling; and

Whereas, her positive spirit, faith, strength, and trademark smile have amazed and encouraged all around her and continue to do so; and

Whereas, it is the trials of life that most clearly authenticate to others the stuff we are made of, and Brook Waddle, of Landrum, in her response to adversity, has proven her own character to be of the very highest quality. The members of the House of Representatives salute her courage and take great pleasure in welcoming Brook home to Landrum, while extending their prayers for God's blessing on her life and best wishes for a bright future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, welcome Brook Waddle back to her home in Landrum and commend her faith and courage throughout more than a year and a half of recovery from injuries.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Brook Waddle.
