A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE HARTSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL "RED FOXES" BASEBALL TEAM OF DARLINGTON COUNTY ON ITS EXCITING AAAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIP WIN AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND HEAD COACH COREY LEWIS ON AN AMAZING SEASON.

Whereas, in a season of distinction, the Hartsville High School "Red Foxes" Baseball Team rode a wave of victories all the way to capture the 2007 South Carolina AAAA State Championship Title; and

Whereas, Head Coach Corey Lewis, Assistant Coaches Michael Camak, Lee Gainey, Tony Gainey, Tripp Pennington, Jacob Shumate, and Braden Telesz, Athletic Trainer Brad Robinson, and Athletics Director Phyllis Griggs, and the players on the Hartsville High School Baseball Team led the team to triumph by utilizing a combination of all the attributes of a championship-caliber baseball team; and

Whereas, starting the season unranked, the Red Foxes capped an incredible season with a 29-4 record by defeating the Yellow Jackets of North Augusta with an impressive 6-0 win to bring home the bragging rights to the State Championship; and

Whereas, in two games Hartsville held North Augusta to one run on six hits in fourteen innings; two days after senior Patrick Mincey kept North Augusta off the scoreboard for six-plus innings, junior Jordan Lyles was on top of his game at the Big Dance by holding North Augusta scoreless on just three hits; and

Whereas, the win represents the fourth state title in baseball for Hartsville High School and is the direct result of an excellent defense, timely hitting, and superb starting pitching; and

Whereas, the talented players of this championship team are Jason Jones, Jas Skinner, Adam Peterson, Seth Lowe, Alex Gray, Trevor Cassidy, Wil Newsome, Hunter Privette, Robert Skinner, Macray Peavy, Jim Beattie, Shane Watford, Chris Wallace, Dylan Usher, Patrick Mincey, Ryan Mims, Will Lucas, Jordan Lyles, Lee Tyner, Andrew Turner, Shane Champion, and Marshall Diven; and

Whereas, throughout the season and during championship play, the Red Foxes exhibited the tenacity and determination that would lead them on to the ultimate victory. Working together, these young men illustrated that drive, skills, and good sportsmanship can certainly pay off, and they serve as a shining example to other athletes and South Carolinians in general; and

Whereas, Coach Lewis and his staff are to be commended for their hard work and dedication, the culmination of which provided this team of young athletes with the achievement and joy of winning of the State Championship title which they will certainly cherish for the rest of their lives; and

Whereas, it is with great pleasure and a certain measure of Pee Dee pride, that the South Carolina House of Representatives pauses to recognize the accomplishments and dedication of these fine South Carolina athletes and their coaches and to congratulate them on their momentous success. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate the Hartsville High School Baseball Team of Darlington County on its exciting State Championship win and honor the players and Head Coach Corey Lewis on an amazing season.
