A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND THANK THE ABC TELEVISION SHOW "EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION", THE TEACHERS WHO MADE THE NOMINATIONS FOR PARTICIPATION ON THE SHOW, AND THE THOUSANDS OF HORRY COUNTY COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS WHO HELPED CONSTRUCT AND DONATE A FURNISHED NEW HOME FOR THE RENEE WILSON FAMILY OF THE LONGS COMMUNITY IN HORRY COUNTY.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were very gratified to learn that earlier this year, the Renee Wilson family from the Longs community in Horry County received a new furnished home as a part of the ABC television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition"; and

Whereas, before this wonderful occurrence, Renee Wilson lived in a cramped trailer with her four grandchildren, tending to them for the past three years because their mother could not care for them and she did not want to split them up; and

Whereas, the Wilson family was chosen by the show to receive this new home built at a location close to their former home by volunteers with donated materials; and

Whereas, Renee Wilson works in the lunch room at Forestbrook Elementary School in Myrtle Beach. She was nominated for participation on the show by North Myrtle Beach Elementary School teacher Gail Horton and North Myrtle Beach Primary teacher Jayson Bendik; and

Whereas, thousand of volunteers played a part in bringing this new construction to fruition. From builders, to furniture stores, to restaurants, to citizens who just wanted to help, the entire Horry County community came together in a very special way to make this joyful occasion for the Wilson family a reality; and

Whereas, in addition to this thirty-four hundred square foot, five bedroom masterpiece, the Wilson's, due to the generosity of the show and other donors, spent a portion of the time their new residence was under construction at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, and each of the four grandchildren, Hakeem, Timothy, R.J., and Erica received full-tuition scholarships at their choice of either Horry-Georgetown Technical College or Coastal Carolina University; and

Whereas, this heartwarming experience showed how a loving community can come together and share with a family in need and it speaks to how South Carolinians reach out to their fellow citizens in need and lend a helping hand to those who are trying to help themselves; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to publicly recognize and thank all those who had a hand in this project and express to them on behalf of all South Carolinians their thanks and appreciation for their part in this tremendous endeavor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and thank the ABC television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition", the teachers who made the nominations for participation on the show, and the thousands of Horry County community volunteers who helped construct and donate a furnished new home for the Renee Wilson family of the Longs community in Horry County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to ABC television show "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" and to teachers Gail Horton and Jayson Bendik.
