VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE TOMMY GAINEY OF BISHOPVILLE ON WINNING THE GOLF CHANNEL'S "THE BIG BREAK VII: REUNION" COMPETITION BY DEFEATING FIFTEEN OTHER GOLFERS TO CAPTURE FINAL VICTORY.
Whereas, "The Big Break" is a golf reality show which brings together highly skilled players to compete against each other in challenges that test both physical skills and mental agility with prizes that include entry into high-level professional tournaments; and
Whereas, Tommy Gainey, who has lived in Bishopville all his life, is a self-made golfer who found ways to keep playing the game he loves so dearly while also making a living. He spent years as an assembly-line worker in a water heater factory and as a furniture mover to keep money in his pocket and earn enough to play a round of golf when he could; and
Whereas, with a loan from a friend, Mr. Gainey played in and won his first professional tournament; however, his biggest break came when he was chosen as a contestant on "The Big Break IV"; and
Whereas, he was one of sixteen previous players selected to compete in the seventh installment of the wildly popular golf series, "The Big Break VII: Reunion", which gave the previous players another shot at victory and was filmed over a twelve-day period at Reunion Resort and Club in Orlando, Florida; and
Whereas, it was in the final of twelve episodes that Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey, so named because he wears a golf glove on both hands, would go on to defeat Ashley Gomes in the championship match after making an eagle on the first hole and then going up two on Gomes on the next hole; and
Whereas, with tenacity and the talent to back it up, he managed to claim the title on the seventh hole when Gomes missed a par putt; and
Whereas, arguably the best male player in the history of the show judging by his many accomplishments after the two series he played in, Tommy Gainey has shown he most certainly has the right stuff to compete on the highest level; and
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives pause to recognize the accomplishments of Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey, a talented South Carolina son. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate Tommy Gainey of Bishopville on winning the Golf Channel's "The Big Break VII: Reunion" competition by defeating fifteen other golfers to capture final victory.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mr. Tommy "Two Gloves" Gainey of Bishopville.
