A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE LOGAN BROOKE ROSS OF LEXINGTON COUNTY ON BEING SELECTED TO RECEIVE THE 2007 BERNARD CARROLL BALLENTINE SCHOLARSHIP AND TO WISH HER THE VERY BEST AS SHE EMBARKS ON HER COLLEGE CAREER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, Logan Brooke Ross of Chapin, who is graduating from Chapin High School, has been selected to receive the 2007 Bernard Carroll Ballentine Scholarship; and

Whereas, Miss Ross, an exceptional student with an enviable record of academic achievement and participation in extracurricular activities including sports, leadership positions, and community service, will attend the University of South Carolina with an interest in majoring in exercise science to pursue her eventual goal of becoming a physician's assistant; and

Whereas, operating with the belief that greater personal fulfillment can be found in giving rather than receiving, Logan possesses an admirable commitment to extracurricular activities and public service including serving as secretary of her junior and senior classes; planning her high school prom; being a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, and Chapin High Softball Team; stuffing goody boxes for American troops serving in Iraq; and through volunteering for charitable organizations by raising money for the Salvation Army at Christmas and the Palmetto Health Children's Hospital; and

Whereas, among the many interesting experiences Logan has enjoyed, representing Chapin in the Junior Miss Scholarship Pageant provided a uniquely profound opportunity to meet peers from throughout the state and learn that women can comfortably possess a variety of outstanding qualities such as intelligence, drive, talent, and beauty; and

Whereas, the Bernard Carroll Ballentine Scholarship was established in 2006 by Representative Nathan Ballentine in honor of his paternal grandfather who passed away in 1976 and in furtherance of his commitment to return his legislative salary to the community. Bernard Carroll Ballentine graduated from Irmo High School and served with honor in the United States Army during World War II, and was a former fire chief in Columbia. This scholarship will be awarded annually to one high school senior who plans to attend the University of South Carolina; and

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives are pleased to have the opportunity to recognize such a noteworthy student and fine young woman as Logan Ross, an outstanding daughter of Lexington County and this State, who has brought great pride to her family and community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate Logan Brooke Ross of Lexington County on being selected to receive the 2007 Bernard Carroll Ballentine Scholarship and to wish her the very best as she embarks on her college career at the University of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Logan Brooke Ross.
