A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO EXTEND A WARM AND HEARTY WELCOME AND EVERY GOOD WISH TO THE FAMILIES GATHERING TO CELEBRATE THE OCCASION OF THE HOLLOWAY-PICKENS FAMILY REUNION TO BE HELD FROM JUNE 29 THROUGH JULY 1, 2007, IN RICHLAND COUNTY.

Whereas, the families and descendants of the Holloway-Pickens family originated Saluda County with the marriage of Della Jones to Tommie Holloway, and after Mr. Holloway's death, Della's subsequent marriage to Jim Pickens. The lord blessed these unions with twelve wonderful children; and

Whereas, the first Holloway-Pickens family reunion took place in Batesburg over a quarter of a century ago, in 1980, and the tradition has been celebrated biennially there and in New York, Florida, and Georgia; and

Whereas, family members from over fifteen states will soon reunite for the Holloway-Pickens family reunion, which will be held at the Weston Lake Recreational Area at Fort Jackson from June 29 through July 1, 2007; and

Whereas, this distinguished family is especially proud of its oldest member, beloved ninety-one year old Mary Lee Jackson of Batesburg; and

Whereas, family reunions such as the Holloway-Pickens family reunion are a good thing for members of all generations and degrees of kinship, for they provide a special time to reaffirm the bonds of unity and love that have been the family's backbone and strength for generations, to share stories from years gone by and begin new stories, to pass wisdom and family history to future generations and help them learn of its rich family heritage, embrace its legacy, celebrate its roots, and build on its foundation of love and togetherness for the future. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, extend a warm and hearty welcome and every good wish to the families gathering to celebrate the occasion of the Holloway-Pickens family reunion to be held from June 29 through July 1, 2007, in Richland County.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Ms. Victoria Gates on behalf of the Holloway-Pickens family.
