A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND CONGRATULATE THE FROCK SHOP, OF HAMPTON, ON ITS SIXTIETH ANNIVERSARY AND TO EXTEND BEST WISHES FOR MANY SUCCESSFUL YEARS TO COME.

Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to note that The Frock Shop celebrated sixty years of serving the people of Hampton in May 2007; and

Whereas, six decades ago, on May 8, 1947, Mr. and Mrs. William "Barney" Peeples, of Hampton, and Mr. and Mrs. Otis Peeples, of Estill, purchased The Frock Shop from Mrs. John Anthony and Mrs. Lester Thomas, who had established the store and had been operating it for the previous twelve years. In the following year, Barney and Reba Peeples bought out Barney's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Peeples, who already owned The Fashion Center in Estill; and

Whereas, after doing business at two other sites, in 1957 the store moved to its present location on Lee Avenue in Hampton, where it carried ladies' dresses, hats, hose, jewelry, children's dresses, men's shirts, socks, and ties, Madame Alexander dolls, and handkerchiefs; and

Whereas, today, the store offers ladies' dresses, sportswear, Brighton jewelry, belts, and bags, Vera Bradley, books, fine linens, infant clothes, Gund toys, and gifts. After Barney Peeples passed away in 1981, his wife, Reba, continued operating the business and even added keeping the books and other records to her list of duties; and

Whereas, Reba, an institution in Hampton, finds able assistance for her work in her daughters, Becky Young and Susan Vallotton, and many other local ladies and teens have also rendered loyal help during The Frock Shop's more than half a century of doing business; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives would like to take this opportunity to thank The Frock Shop for its sixty years of service to the Town of Hampton, and the members take great pleasure in joining with the store's clientele in congratulating The Frock Shop on reaching this impressive milestone. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate The Frock Shop, of Hampton, on its sixtieth anniversary and extend best wishes for many successful years to come.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Reba Peeples and The Frock Shop.
