VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO CONGRATULATE SUMTER'S WILLIAM A. KING, M.D., MEDICAL DIRECTOR OF THE SANTEE-WATEREE COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH CENTER, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE AS A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL, AND TO WISH HIM MUCH HAPPINESS AND FULFILLMENT IN ALL HIS FUTURE ENDEAVORS.
Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the South Carolina House of Representatives honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to the welfare of this great State's citizenry; and
Whereas, Dr. William A. King, retiring medical director of the Santee-Wateree Community Mental Health Center (SWCMHC), stands among their number as an outstanding public benefactor, one much admired in his role as both medical doctor and administrator; and
Whereas, in preparation for his life's work, he earned his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, graduating from that program in 1963. He then spent a year in a rotating internship at St. Agnes Hospital and three years at Seton Psychiatric Institute, both in Baltimore, Maryland; and
Whereas, on July 9, 1969, having served two years as a psychiatrist in the United States Air Force, Dr. King took up his duties as medical director and, for a time, clinic director as well, of the SWCMHC, then known as the Sumter-Clarendon-Kershaw Mental Health Center. The center's longest-employed staff member, he has served faithfully there for more than thirty-eight years; and
Whereas, in addition to his work at the center, this compassionate medical man has also maintained a private practice and served as chief of staff at Tuomey Hospital, where he was inpatient staff psychiatrist for more than twenty years and served on the hospital's Quality Improvement Committee. He has provided countless hours of training to SWCMHC staff, family practitioners, nurse practitioners, and other mental health professionals and holds memberships in the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association. Not one to neglect his civic duty, Dr. King is a former member of the South Carolina State Board of Education; and
Whereas, having made his mark and set the bar of achievement extraordinarily high in his profession, Dr. King will be remembered with affection and gratitude by colleagues, patients, and legislative friends for years to come. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Sumter's William A. King, M.D., medical director of the Santee-Wateree Community Mental Health Center, upon the occasion of his retirement, commend him for his many years of dedicated service as a medical professional, and wish him much happiness and fulfillment in all his future endeavors.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. William A. King.
