A JOINT RESOLUTION

TO DIRECT THE STATE BUDGET AND CONTROL BOARD CHIEF INFORMATION OFFICER AND THE SOUTH CAROLINA EDUCATIONAL TELEVISION NETWORK TO PROVIDE A WIRELESS CLOUD OVER ALL PUBLIC SCHOOL FACILITIES AND OVER A TEN-MILE RADIUS SURROUNDING THE FACILITIES USING EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE.

Whereas, the General Assembly finds that access to computers and the Internet, along with the ability to effectively use these technologies, is critical to the education of South Carolina schoolchildren; and

Whereas, broadband service to access information and resources serves as a pivotal element in eliminating the educational divide that exists in this State; and

Whereas, access to computers and broadband access at home and at school enhances the learning environment for school age children; and

Whereas, it is important that South Carolina schoolchildren be given every possible educational advantage in order to become productive state citizens. Now, therefore,

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    The State Budget and Control Board Chief Information Officer and the South Carolina Educational Television Network are directed to provide a wireless cloud over all public school facilities and over a ten-mile radius surrounding the facilities using existing infrastructure.
