A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE JOINT SERVICES DETACHMENT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA MILITARY DEPARTMENT UPON THE OCCASION OF THE TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF ITS OPERATION, AND TO EXPRESS GRATITUDE FOR THE SERVICE ITS PARTICIPANTS PROVIDE TO THE CITIZENS OF SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives value the expertise and professional support provided by the Joint Services Detachment which promote the professional military image, historical significance, and reputation for reliability of the South Carolina Military Department; and

Whereas, in 1996, Adjutant General Stan Spears conceived the idea of such a detachment and created a plan for it when he saw the need of the South Carolina Military Department for specialized professional support; and

Whereas, the plan materialized and became operational in 1997, and the Joint Services Detachment intend to celebrate its ten years of service to the South Carolina Military Department and the State of South Carolina on March 8, 2008; and

Whereas, the Joint Services Detachment is a volunteer administrative support group appointed by the Governor and the Adjutant General to provide legal, medical, financial, military, and law enforcement support to the South Carolina Military Department; and

Whereas, detachment officers provide professional assistance to the South Carolina Military Department allowing it to operate more efficiently at no additional expense to the department; and

Whereas, the Joint Services officers are dedicated and committed to the mission of the South Carolina Military Department and stand ready to support the Adjutant General and the men and women of the department; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives pause in their deliberations to express profound appreciation for the volunteers who serve in the Joint Services Detachment. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize the Joint Services Detachment of the South Carolina Military Department upon the occasion of the tenth anniversary of its operation, and express gratitude for the service its participants provide to the citizens of South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Major General John R. Lester, Commander of the Joint Services Detachment.
