THE COMMITTEE ON

INVITATIONS AND MEMORIAL RESOLUTIONS

To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (H. 4850) to request that the Department of Transportation name the bridge that crosses Maple Swamp along Adrian Highway in Horry County "Julian A. Booth Memorial Bridge", etc., respectfully

REPORT:

That they have duly and carefully considered the same and recommend that the same do pass:

ROBERT W. LEACH, SR. for Committee.

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE BRIDGE THAT CROSSES MAPLE SWAMP ALONG ADRIAN HIGHWAY IN HORRY COUNTY "JULIAN A. BOOTH MEMORIAL BRIDGE" AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS BRIDGE THAT CONTAIN THE WORDS "JULIAN A. BOOTH MEMORIAL BRIDGE".

Whereas, Mr. Julian Archie Booth was born on November 12, 1929, the son of S. Mack and Maude Graham Booth in the Adrian-Good Hope section of Horry County, and died on April 3, 1979; and

Whereas, in 1949, he married the former Virginia Long, and together they were blessed with three children; and

Whereas, he was a faithful member of the Good Hope Baptist Church where he served on the Board of Deacons, and was a Sunday School teacher; and

Whereas, Mr. Booth was employed with the Horry County Prison Department, and was an active member of the Prison Ministry at the Horry County Prison Camp; and

Whereas, despite being diagnosed with a life ending form of leukemia, he gave hope to many men and women who were facing the challenges of life; and

Whereas, as a lasting tribute to the humanitarian efforts of this son of South Carolina, it is fitting and proper for the members of the General Assembly to name a bridge in his honor in Horry County. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, request that the Department of Transportation name the bridge that crosses Maple Swamp along Adrian Highway in Horry County "Julian A. Booth Memorial Bridge" and erect appropriate markers or signs at this bridge that contain the words "Julian A. Booth Memorial Bridge".

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
