A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE LIFE OF MACIE GRIFFIN WATSON, A CHERISHED CITIZEN OF GREENWOOD COUNTY, UPON THE UPCOMING OCCASION OF HER ONE HUNDREDTH BIRTHDAY, AND TO WISH HER CONTINUED HAPPINESS AND PROSPERITY IN HER FAMILY, CHURCH, AND COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that Macie Griffin Watson will turn one hundred years old on December 16, 2008, and they pause to honor her life and the compassion she has brought to her community; and

Whereas, born in Greenwood on December 16, 1908, Macie Griffin is the oldest of six children born to Carrie Bowie Griffin and Milton Griffin; and

Whereas, as a young girl, Macie attended Little River Institute and Brewer Normal School in Greenwood County; and

Whereas, in 1928, she married her beloved husband, the late Horace Watson, and they were married for sixty-four years and raised eight fine children, Thelma, Henry, Horace, Jr., Charles, Ella, Clarence, Robert, and Anthony, and her niece Iretha; and

Whereas, she has twenty-eight grandchildren, forty-five great-grandchildren and fifteen great-great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, she has been a faithful member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Greenwood for eighty-eight years, where she served as the church clerk for forty-four years and was involved in various church and community activities; and

Whereas, she and her late sister Nezzie began an annual family reunion, and her family plans to honor her and celebrate her centennial event on July thirteenth at this year's reunion to be held at Hickory Knob in McCormick from July 11-14, 2008, surrounded by adoring family members; and

Whereas, in the words of the wise king of Israel in Proverbs 31:30-31, "A woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates"; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives join with the many relatives of Macie Griffin Watson to send their hearty wishes for a joyous family celebration to honor her one hundred years. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor the life of Macie Griffin Watson, a cherished citizen of Greenwood County, upon the upcoming occasion of her one hundredth birthday, and wish her continued happiness and prosperity in her family, church, and community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Macie Griffin Watson.
