A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE REVEREND WILLIAM REESE UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS FIFTY-FOURTH ANNIVERSARY AS FOUNDING PASTOR OF LAKESIDE BAPTIST CHURCH IN AIKEN COUNTY, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT ON MAY 18, 2008.

Whereas, it is with great pleasure that the General Assembly honors those individuals who give tirelessly of themselves to succor the souls of men; and

Whereas, the Reverend William Reese, senior pastor of Lakeside Baptist Church in Clearwater, stands among their number as an outstanding minister of the Gospel, one much admired in his roles as pastor, teacher, and preacher since the church's founding in 1954; and

Whereas, adding constant study of the Scriptures, reading of the classic writings for the ministry, and the discipline of hard work to his training at Bob Jones University, the young Bill Reese prepared himself for the Gospel ministry, into which he was ordained in 1952; and

Whereas, only twenty years of age at ordination, Pastor Reese two years later started Lakeside Baptist Church, then known as Piney Heights Baptist Church and located in Langley, and he has served its congregation as pastor during the church's entire fifty-four-year history to this day, a rare achievement; and

Whereas, he has witnessed the church's growth from a canvas-tent sanctuary the first year to an expanding brick complex on the original church site to the present thirty-two-acre Clearwater campus, now adorned with beautiful buildings that well serve today's four hundred-strong membership; and

Whereas, although Pastor Reese and his flock believe in constructing quality facilities, they believe building up the brethren in their most holy faith is much more critical. Thus, the faithful teaching and preaching of God's Word, the Bible, is at the core of all church activities. Led by Pastor Reese, Lakeside has grown to include such ministries as a flourishing Sunday school for all ages; Youth Care, which performs yard care and housework for those in need; Awana Clubs for children; substantial support of more than one hundred missionaries and Gospel works; and member participation in short-term mission trips to Russia and other far-flung locales; and

Whereas, in the late sixties, he took a second job in order to purchase land for a summer youth camp. He secured help and labored himself to build the facility on Sudlow Lake Road in North Augusta. From 1969 until the 1980's, the camp provided a setting for outdoor fun, as well as for making decisions that would impact thousands of campers for a lifetime; and

Whereas, observing Pastor Reese's servant heart in action and following his example, many men have been called into the ministry and other service occupations over the years. Some have gone on to build churches that have touched the lives of multitudes of people; and

Whereas, Pastor Reese considers one of his crowning achievements as having had the good sense to marry his beloved Fannie and with her to raise three beautiful daughters, Susan, Sharon, and Faith, who have given their parents the joy of seven grandchildren; and

Whereas, noted as a man of Christian standards and character, this servant of God strives to manifest Jesus Christ as Lord and to strengthen and renew the Body of Christ in his ministry. "Well done, good and faithful servant" truly expresses the dedicated quality of his life's work, which will be celebrated in ceremonies to be held at Lakeside Baptist Church on May 18, 2008. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor the Reverend William Reese upon the occasion of his fifty-fourth anniversary as founding pastor of Lakeside Baptist Church in Aiken County, and congratulate him upon the occasion of his retirement on May 18, 2008.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Pastor William Reese.
