A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE MEMBERS OF NEW MOUNT ZION BAPTIST CHURCH, OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY, UPON THE OCCASION OF THE DEDICATION OF THEIR NEW SANCTUARY, AND TO CELEBRATE WITH THEM AS THEY COMMIT THIS NEW HOUSE OF WORSHIP TO GOD.

Whereas, the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina are pleased to learn that New Mount Zion Baptist Church will dedicate its new sanctuary in Orangeburg to the glory of God on May 4, 2008; and

Whereas, in 1933, New Mount Zion Baptist Church was founded for the purpose of worshipping the Omnipotent Father of all mankind and to offer the citizens of Orangeburg a place in which to do so; and

Whereas, over its seventy-five years, the congregation has occupied four different structures and has had thirteen pastors who faithfully led the members; and

Whereas, in 2000, Reverend Jerome Anderson began to shepherd this flock of Christians, and under his leadership the congregation outgrew the church established in 1980 so that dual services were necessary to seat everyone; and

Whereas, when Reverend Anderson initiated the idea of a larger sanctuary, new property was purchased from Norfolk Southern Railway, and construction began a few years later; and

Whereas, on January 20, 2008, the new church's doors opened for the first service to the jubilation of the pastor, ministers, officers, and members, who understand the words of the sweet songwriter of Israel in Psalm 122:1, "I was glad when they said unto me, 'Let us go into the house of the Lord'"; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives celebrate with the members of New Mount Zion Baptist Church that the congregation now worships together in a new sanctuary. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend the members of New Mount Zion Baptist Church, of Orangeburg County, upon the occasion of the dedication of their new sanctuary, and celebrate with them as they commit this new house of worship to God.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Reverend Jerome Anderson.
