TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR THE WORK OF THE DEDICATED VOLUNTEERS WHO SERVE THE CITIZENS OF KERSHAW COUNTY AT THE COMMUNITY MEDICAL CLINIC, AND TO CONGRATULATE THEM UPON THE OCCASION OF TEN YEARS OF OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THEIR COMMUNITY.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn of the exceptional service that so many volunteers have given to address the needs of the underserved in Kershaw County through the Community Medical Clinic; and

Whereas, in any thriving community, the need for adequate health care for all of its citizens is an indispensable need, and for a decade the Community Medical Clinic has met that need in Kershaw County with professionalism and personal caring; and

Whereas, in 1997, Dr. Alice Brooks and United Way Director Donny Supplee formed a board of directors to plan for a clinic in Kershaw County to offer services to patients with low incomes who have no or inadequate medical insurance; and

Whereas, with a mission to create stronger families and communities, the Community Medical Clinic empowers individuals to improve their own health and well-being through generous volunteer and financial support in the community; and

Whereas, the clinic opened in November of 1998 in cooperation with such organizations as the United Way, the Department of Social Services, Christian Community Ministries, and Habitat for Humanity; and

Whereas, located in the United Way building for its first eight years, in 2006 the Community Medical Clinic moved to its own new facility, which doubled the clinic's space and ability to serve its ever-growing patient population; and

Whereas, grateful patients have responded by writing letters of appreciation, bringing in produce and baked goods, and even making small donations for examinations, medicine, x-rays, blood work, and training classes covering specific health issues; and

Whereas, a community effort, the clinic receives financial support from such donors as the hospital, the United Way, the County of Kershaw, the City of Camden, foundations, and local churches, but its greatest miracle is the number of community volunteers who assist at the clinic; and

Whereas, with only a few paid staffers through the years, hundreds of volunteers including doctors and nurses have logged thousands of hours annually and have helped patients with a myriad of essential tasks and with assistance to enable them to reach the goal of improving their own health and well-being; and

Whereas, volunteers are the mainstay of the clinic's operations, and the clinic depends on the strong volunteer relationships of these concerned individuals to conduct its operations; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly commend the caring and dedicated work of the volunteers at the Community Medical Clinic, of Kershaw County, and express their deep gratitude for their service to the citizens of that community. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor the work of the dedicated volunteers who have served the citizens of Kershaw County at the Community Medical Clinic, and congratulate them upon the occasion of ten years of outstanding service to their community.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the board of directors of the Community Medical Clinic, of Kershaw County.
