VERSIONS OF THIS BILL
TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR DR. JAMES "JIMMY" LITTLEFIELD, OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY, FOR HIS FORTY YEARS OF SERVICE AS AN EDUCATOR, AND TO CONGRATULATE HIM FOR BEING NAMED 2008 SOUTH CAROLINA SUPERINTENDENT OF THE YEAR BY THE SOUTH CAROLINA ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives are pleased to learn that the superintendent of Spartanburg School District One, Dr. James "Jimmy" Littlefield, has been named 2008 South Carolina Superintendent of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators; and
Whereas, after earning a bachelor's degree in government magna cum laude from Wofford College in 1969 and a master's degree in social studies from Converse College in 1974, Inman native Jimmy Littlefield began a distinguished career in education that has spanned almost forty years; and
Whereas, he first taught and coached for two years and then served as an educational administrator on the district level for seventeen years, and in 1987 he earned a doctorate from the University of South Carolina in educational administration; and
Whereas, during his twenty-one years as superintendent, he has successfully focused his mission on student-centered education, and under his leadership, Spartanburg District One was one of the first four districts in the State to receive district accreditation status; and
Whereas, he has further served his community to promote various projects as a member and past president of the Landrum Lions Club, and he is a deacon and dedicated member of Campobello First Baptist Church, having served as the Sunday school director for twenty years; and
Whereas, with his beloved wife Gail Burns Littlefield, he has raised two fine children, Tina Littlefield Harrell and Jason Littlefield, and they have been blessed with two adoring granddaughters; and
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives express their deep gratitude to Dr. James "Jimmy" Littlefield, superintendent of Spartanburg School District One, for forty years of service to the students of this great State and commend him for being named 2008 South Carolina Superintendent of the Year. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, recognize and honor Dr. James "Jimmy" Littlefield, of Spartanburg County, for his forty years of service as an educator, and congratulate him for being named 2008 South Carolina Superintendent of the Year by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. James "Jimmy" Littlefield.
