A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO HONOR AND REMEMBER THE SUPREME SACRIFICE MADE BY SPECIALIST DARIUS T. JENNINGS, OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY, WHILE HE WAS SERVING A TOUR OF MILITARY DUTY IN IRAQ WITH THE 3RD ARMORED CAVALRY REGIMENT OF FORT CARSON, AND TO EXPRESS TO HIS WIDOW AND FAMILY THE DEEPEST APPRECIATION OF A GRATEFUL STATE AND NATION FOR HIS LIFE, SACRIFICE, AND SERVICE.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives on behalf of all South Carolinians acknowledge with deep appreciation the great sacrifice that the men and women of the United States Armed Forces make for the ideals of freedom and justice which are so richly enjoyed in this nation; and

Whereas, answering the call of his country, Specialist Jennings enlisted in the Army in June 2001 three years after he had graduated from Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School and left his family and home in Cordova, South Carolina, to serve with the 2nd Squadron of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment of Fort Carson; and

Whereas, the son of Harriet Elaine Johnson and John Johnson, Darius Jennings married his beloved wife Ari Jennings on October 29, 2002; and

Whereas, on November 2, 2003, at the age of twenty-two, Specialist Jennings lost his life in Iraq for the cause of freedom when the CH-47 Chinook helicopter he was in came under attack and crashed; and

Whereas, there is no greater or braver sacrifice than for a man to lay down his life for his country; and

Whereas, it is with great sadness and deep pride that the South Carolina House of Representatives pauses in its deliberations to remember the life and sacrifice of one of South Carolina's brave sons and heroes, Specialist Darius T. Jennings; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives express to the widow and family of Specialist Darius T. Jennings their grateful appreciation for his life, his sacrifice, and his service. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, honor and remember the supreme sacrifice made by Specialist Darius T. Jennings, of Orangeburg County, while he was serving a tour of military duty in Iraq with the 3rd Armored Cavalry of Fort Carson, and express to his widow and family the deepest appreciation of a grateful State and nation for his life, sacrifice, and service.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Specialist Darius T. Jennings.
