A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR WILLIE SAM ADAMS, OF ORANGEBURG COUNTY, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO HIS FAITH, FAMILY, AND COMMUNITY, AND TO WISH HIM ALL THE BEST IN THE COMING YEARS.

Whereas, an Orangeburg native, Willie Sam Adams is the third child of the late Mr. Bill and Minnie Adams; and

Whereas, educated at Orangeburg Training School, Mr. Adams was the first at the school to drive the school bus; and

Whereas, after school, Sam played basketball and drove the truck for Williams's Cleaners, keeping focused on higher aspirations; and

Whereas, a devoted family man, Mr. Adams shared a loving marriage with his wife, the late Susie Keitt Adams; and

Whereas, hungry for a successful, adventurous life, Sam and his wife moved to New York City, where he owned several businesses, including Big Brother Grocery, Adams Soul Food Restaurant, and Adams Barber Shop; and

Whereas, extraordinarily loyal, Mr. Adams provided his entire family with employment in his various businesses in New York City; and

Whereas, a steadfast member of New York's Greater Emanuel Baptist Church, he has served as a Deacon, as President of the Gospel Choir, and he also has been a member of the Willing Worker's Board and the Pastor's Aid Board; and

Whereas, after greatly impacting his New York community, Mr. Adams decided to return to South Carolina to fulfill his dream of purchasing land on which his entire family could live; and

Whereas, a veritable entrepreneur, Sam opened Adams Texaco (ABC) Store, a restaurant, and a club in South Carolina; and

Whereas, Mr. Adams became a member of Union AME Church, where he dedicated himself to working for the Lord and inspired countless fellow Christians to live their lives according to higher purposes; and

Whereas, an active member of numerous community and civic organizations, Sam has served as President of the Orangeburg Area Lay Organization, Delegate to the General Conference, Trustee of Allen University, and as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Family Health Center, among other important leadership roles; and

Whereas, it is with great pride that the members of the South Carolina Senate pause in their deliberations to honor this outstanding native son of South Carolina for his many contributions to his community and to the State of South Carolina. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the Senate of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and honor Willie Sam Adams, of Orangeburg County, for his outstanding contributions to his faith, family, and community, and wish him all the best in the coming years.
